  • Journey to Dreamland...

    11p.m.

I decided to go straight to bed when we got home because I was just plain tired.

Bid my goodnight's to the family. Changed clothes and snuggled into bed.

Oops. Forgot to drink my Limu.

Pulled my robe on and to the kitchen I go. Mission accomplished. Bid goodnight's again. Back to bed.

Moments later, brother pokes head in, light streaming through my perfectly dark room. Needs work clothes washed. Oh never mind. You're already in bed.

The call to duty is too strong.

Up, back to the kitchen. Robe is on inside-out this time. Start load.

Straight back to bed, not forgetting the goodnight's and kisses, and an extra hug from brother.

Does not quite make it into bed.

    Pops is calling my name.

Nope, ain't doing it. Going to bed. Pulls covers over head in vain effort to escape bright bedroom light.

Pops needs help with finding the end on his roll of tape.

I comply from bed, politely asking for the light to be turned out and the bedroom and hall doors to be closed.

Getting 2 out of 3 of a request isn't bad.

Finally, made it all the way to the "Amen" on bedtime prayer. Ready for dreamland.

Brother is watching the American Idol he recorded.

    Sounded like someone was dying.

Crawled back out of bed and quietly closed hall door. I could hear chuckles from the menfolk.

Surely nothing else could interrupt my peaceful attempts at sleep.

My cell phone by the bed beeps rather loudly with a new text message.

Ah yes. Mama had a few bills to pay before she went to bed. One of them was Verizon, and the company needed to let me know it had been paid. Good ol' Verizon.

Message click on so I wouldn't be alerted again, I hunkered down, determined to go to sleep. Now.

But I had one more unusual problem.

As I lay there in the silent darkness I realized.......

Things were suddenly just too quiet for me to drift off
